Last week I mentioned that Discovery Place Kids Rockingham would be reopening its doors after a long spring renewal, and boy was it worth the wait!! We hope you had as much fun exploring as we did…

The NC Science Trail slipped in before closing on opening day at Rockingham’s re-engineered Discovery Place Kids. We were swept up in the wonder of the new exhibits and refurbished existing exhibits. What a great time we had touring the museum with Angela and her crew and experiencing the new activities with the remaining guests.

Discovery Place Kids – Rockingham threw open its doors to the public on Saturday, April 13, following extensive renovations. The renovated space features new and expanded exhibits highlighting local industry in and around Rockingham, NC.

The museum has been a mainstay in the Rockingham community for the past 11 years serving more than 300,000 guests over the years. After hearing from the community in focus groups last year, the museum responded to the desire of parents to “age-up” the museum so their older kids would not “age out.” Originally targeting kids 2-8 years old, the museum has added activities and exhibits that appeal to older kids as well.

*Funding for the renovations was provided by The Community Foundation of Richmond County, The Cole Foundation, Richmond County Tourism Development Authority, the City of Rockingham and Richmond County. Discovery Place Kids – Rockingham values its partnership with these foundations and municipalities, which have been avid supporters of the Museum since its opening in 2013.

We would like to give a tremendous thank you to Angela and her crew for the personalized tour of the new exhibits. It was such a wonderfully fun afternoon! And let’s be honest…who doesn’t want to spend their days doing this kind of great stuff?!?
