On Earth Day a few weeks ago, I had the honor and privilege of joining the Children’s Museum of Wilmington for an event inside their wonderful brick building in the historic section of Wilmington. My three children are now a bit older, but I found myself a little nostalgic for the days spent exploring all the magical corners of children’s museums like this one. A place where every play opportunity is a learning moment. This is a place that thrives on curiosity and has an expectation for boisterous belly giggles. As I was leaving the Children’s Museum of Wilmington that afternoon I ran into a Dad who was watching his little one navigate the stairs up and down, again and again. He turned to me with the biggest smile and said, “What a great museum! We’re definitely going to make this part of our regular routine!” And that, folks, is pretty much all you need to know about the Children’s Museum of Wilmington.

Located in the Historic Downtown Community, The Children’s Museum of Wilmington has been serving the children of Southeastern North Carolina for 25 years! We engage children and their families in joyful learning experiences using the power of play. We provide a safe, clean, and inspiring environment where children get lost in their imaginations. We offer interactive exhibits and weekly programs where kids can explore their natural curiosity.

Science is an important part of childhood, serving to build important skills for learning and a basis for scientific understanding. CMoW provides an opportunity for little learners to practice science process skills through our daily programs, exhibits, camps, and field trips.

Some of our daily programs include Sci Fri, Sea Stars, Nature Navigators, and Full STEAM Ahead. Our Sci-Fri program covers everything from the outer reaches of space to the tiniest microbes in our bodies. Sci Fri is an interactive source of educational hands-on lessons and experiments about all things science. At Sea Stars, little marine biologists will learn all about the ocean and the creatures that call it home through creative play, experiments, hands-on activities, and more! Nature Navigators focuses on exploring all things nature. Adventures will vary from crafts to hands-on learning and everything in between. You can find our educators outside whenever weather permits! Teaching children about science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.) is a great way for children to learn about the scientific process and to develop their critical thinking skills. At Full STEAM Ahead, together we examine and learn more about our fascinating world. Come explore, play, investigate, and try new things with us!
