Some of North Carolina's most dramatic mountain scenery is found at Chimney Rock State Park, with the signature 315-foot spire overlooking Hickory Nut Gorge and Lake Lure. The Rumbling Bald access off Boys Camp Road, on the north side of the park, and Eagle Rock Access are both free to access. There are 10 trails and counting at Chimney Rock State Park.

Admission is charged at the Chimney Rock access. Opportunities for picnicking and hiking on trails that range from child-friendly nature explorations to strenuous treks to the top of Chimney Rock Mountain and to Hickory Nut Falls are available there. Concessions and gift shops are also available. The Rocky Broad River is a prime destination for trout anglers.
