Raise a Glass for Sharks at Suds for Sharks

Bring your love of fins to Suds for Sharks, a fundraiser for sand tiger shark conservation and research. The event is scheduled to be held 5:30 p.m.- 8 p.m. July 16 at Jack’s on the Morehead City Waterfront. It’s a free event and no registration is necessary.

The North Carolina Aquarium Society will host, with the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores and Jack’s, this free, family-friendly event, bringing awareness to the importance of shipwrecks off the coast of North Carolina, as essential habitat for sand tiger sharks, which are considered critically endangered in other parts of the world.

The event will feature speakers and shark-themed games, and all donations will go toward the AZA SAFE: Sharks and Rays shark conservation program. The brewery will also have food for purchase onsite.

Decades of mismanagement combined with one of the slowest reproductive rates among sharks, reduced sand tiger shark populations by as much as 90 percent from historical numbers and have caused these toothy sharks to be listed as a species of concern by the National Marine Fisheries Service and listed as vulnerable by International Union for Conservation of Nature.
