Join a ranger-guided canoe adventure across the estuary from Hammocks Beach State Park mainland to Bear Island, where you’ll paddle through scenic coastal waters while learning about the plants, wildlife, and unique ecosystems of the estuary. This program is limited to 10 participants, requires advance registration, and is open to ages 12 and older. Participants should be prepared for a moderate 3-mile paddle and a memorable journey to one of North Carolina’s most beautiful undeveloped barrier islands.  Once we reach Bear Island, paddle participants will be able to take the ferry back to the mainland at any time, and at no charge.  Contact the park to register.
