Salmon Creek State Natural Area is an as-yet unopened part of the North Carolina State Parks system. It is filled with interesting wildlife, unique habitats, and lots of cultural significance. Join us on a “Mission to the Moon,” with hands-on activities and night-sky viewing in beautiful Bertie County! We’ll meet at Bertie Beach on the Chowan River, which features a large open field with an expansive view of the night sky. Start off with some hands-on activities to learn about the Moon while we wait for dark, and then we will look at the sky through telescopes. Science Festival Listing Here.

The NC Science Festival’s annual Statewide Star Party is made possible through the generous support of the NC Space Grant.
Come experience a special opportunity to visit not-yet-open Salmon Creek State Natural Area. This America 250-themed event will feature local organizations from Bertie County and NC State Parks' Big Canoes so that you can paddle on the creek. (PDFs are available in a variety of sizes.)
