Journey from the mountains to the sea at the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. Each gallery focuses on the unique animal life and habitats found in North Carolina’s different state regions. Discover cold-water trout found in the Carolina mountains, river otters in the Piedmont region, and sandtiger sharks and shipwrecks in the ocean.

A 32-foot smoky mountain waterfall greets guests as they enter the building. Venturing into the Aquarium, the Loggerhead Odyssey habitat showcases the life cycle of sea turtles on the coast featuring a juvenile ambassador sea turtle. Meet animals up close at educational animal encounters held throughout the day, learn during one of the many free daily activities, or participate in one of the hands-on-feet-wet paid activities offered including marsh hikes, beachcombing adventures, or behind-the-scenes tours.

Teachers of Title-1 schools in North Carolina can apply for an Aquarium Scholars grant each year that helps provide STEM programs to students. Outreach designed for school students make learning about coastal ecology, water labs, and marine biology fun and accessible.

Each year the Aquarium hosts several themed days that focus on a particular animal. The annual Homeschool Day is a free event specially designed for homeschool learners, and camps are offered in spring, summer, and winter. There is something for everyone at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores.
