Highlands Biological Station is an inter-institutional facility of Western Carolina University focusing on the rich biological diversity of the southern Appalachians, and consists of our research laboratory, Nature Center, and Botanical Garden. The Nature Center features live animal displays and other exhibits, as well as summer camps and many public programs. STEM Outreach programs are also provided to schools during the academic year. The Botanical Garden has nearly 15 acres of trails throughout natural areas such as forest, stream, mountain bog, and pond habitats; and features more than 500 different species of labeled native plants.

*Please note that the Nature Center and Garden are location at 930 Horse Cove Road, Highlands NC 28741. Parking is available behind the Nature Center building, next door at Valentine House, or across the street at Sunset Rock trailhead.
