When my family was camping in Tennessee a few years back the forests surrounding our campsite were packed full of some of the most beautiful mushrooms I have ever seen. In terms only a scientist could love – it was a decomposers’ paradise. 🙂

I am not a fungi expert, but adore the variety of shapes, colors, and sizes that we can find for mushrooms all over our state. Truth be told, I find it pretty thrilling to wander through a quiet forest in search of weird looking fungi while learning about their incredibly cool jobs.

The citizen science quest below is designed both for fungi nerds and quiet forest seekers alike. Give it a try and submit your strangest finds to iNaturalist, then do a little extra reading so you know WHY your favorites live where they do.

Happy Hunting!

P.S. Remember not to touch. Deadly mushrooms abound everywhere.
