ecoEXPLORE and NC Arboretum: Wonderful Wild Birds of WNC! Mountain Region Ornithology Season Summit (Ages 5-13)

February 17, 2024
12:00 AM - 1:00 PM
100 Frederick Law Olmsted Way, Asheville, NC 28806

Fly on down to celebrate the end of Ornithology Season and the Great Backyard Bird Count with us at the NC Arboretum! We’ll have special guests from Wild Bird Research Group joining for a marvelous mist-netting demonstration that will begin at 12:00. Mist netting is a technique commonly used by scientists to capture birds in order to monitor demographics and learn more about wild bird behavior, so we’re hoping to see some wild Songbirds up close! After that, we’ll have local naturalist Carlton Burke join us for a presentation on the wild birds of WNC, highlighting and including live raptors! We’re excited to also be celebrating the Great Backyard Bird Count with this event, which takes place between Feb 16 and 19! This will be a super fun bird-tastic day! We hope to see you there!

(BONUS: attending this in-person event can count towards Ornithology Challenge Four)
